Carbon Emission

The Macau International Airport had succeeded in achieving our target of “Reducing carbon emissions per aircraft movement by 20% in 2018 compared to 2012 level”. With the implementation of various environmental initiatives, we were able to achieve our target in 2016. In 2017, the Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) per aircraft movement in 2017 was reduced by 28.7% as compared to that of 2012. The table below shows the Greenhouse Gas Emissions over the past few years:

Year Absolute GHG Emissions (tonnes) No. of Aircraft
Movements
Relative GHG Emissions (tonnes/aircraft movement) Change in GHG Emissions per Movement compared to that of 2012
2012 20582.79 41997 0.4901 NA
2013 22072.31 48950 0.4509 ↓ 8.0%
2014 23374.09 52559 0.4447 ↓ 9.3%
2015 23356.13 55720 0.4192 ↓ 14.5%
2016 21139.26 56932 0.3713 ↓ 24.2%
2017 20451.93 58520 0.3495 ↓ 28.7%

Among the Greenhouse Gas Emissions in 2017, electricity consumption contributed to 94.91%, the rest was contributed by emission sources such as refrigerants, vehicles and fire extinguishers. The diagram below gives an overall picture of the contributions of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in 2017.

Emission (tonnes of CO2e) for each type of Emission Source in 2017

We will continue to initiate and implement more environmental-friendly projects, aiming to achieve further reduction in the Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the future..
