Lost and Found Items at Macau International Airport09 Mar 2017

Have you ever lost anything in the airport when you travel? Can you manage to have the lost items back? Do you know how Macau International Airport (MFM) handles travelers’ lost items?
 
Over ten thousand passengers come and go on a daily basis through MFM, lost items are found in the passenger terminal almost every day.  The lost items are various and sometimes surprising too, they may be laptops, mobile phones, luggage, uniforms, balance wheels, accessories, egg tarts, egg rolls, etc. Nevertheless, some items seem worthless but they are meaningful and can hold their owners’ memories.  Lost and found service in the passenger terminal is one of the duties of ADA-Administration of Airports, Ltd, and it is always impressive when our staff see passengers have the lost items back with joy and gratitude.
 
Ever since 2014, ADA’s Terminal Management Service has been taking care of passengers’ lost items in the terminal; all lost items are managed by of Public Security Police (PSP) Airport Station beforehand.  Now, lost and found items in Macau Airport are categorized into two types:

  1. Identification documents and items defined as valuable by PSP Airport Station will be handled by Public Security Police.

  1. Those defined as general items by PSP Airport Station, will be handled by ADA as follows:

  • In accordance to Macau Civil Code No. 1247 (Lost Animals and Movable Objects), when one picks up an item, does not know its owner and reports to Macau International Airport, ADA will inform PSP Airport Station.  Upon PSP’s confirmation as a general item, ADA will handle the lost item with its internal procedures.

  • Items like food, easily perishable, will be disposed of within 24hours in case nobody claims it.

  • Others will be kept for 365 days, and its respective information will be displayed in the Airport’s and ADA websites.

  • No claim after 365 days, persons who reported the lost items will be informed. If he/she gives up possession of the item after 90 days, plus the item is regarded as reusable, it will be donated for charity purposes.

 
During the three years period from 2014 to 2016, there were 423 lost and found items reported in MFM, excluding those managed by PSP.

Some lost and found items reported during 2014 and 2015 but were not claimed have been destroyed according to ADA procedures whereas 12 pieces of clothes in good condition were donated to charity.
 
Having a pleasant trip, travelers should always take note of their personal belongings, this is the best ways to avoid suffering any loss.
