Mr. Eric Fong, Director of Marketing Department of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) represented to attend the China Low Cost Carriers Summit 2015 which took place in Shenzhen from 15th to 16th October 2015. The meeting focuses on the theme “Opportunities and challenges in market opening: how to promote the healthy and sustainable development of the Chinese low cost aviation market?” It provided an incredible networking platform for industry regulators, airlines, airports, suppliers and aviation consultancies and jointly promoted the sustainable development of low-cost aviation market.
The Summit gathered 200 delegates of relevant entities from more than 10 countries and over 30 local and foreign airlines participated in the forum. Low cost carriers have influenced the airline markets in America, Europe and Asia Pacific, with more than 170 LCCs currently operating, representing 26% of the world air transport market. The LCCs in China, however, still only occupy a mere 5% share of the air transport market, highlighting an obvious gap with the European and Southeast Asian markets. Nevertheless, with the rapid growth of the Chinese economy and its air transport market, alongside the government’s plans to increase low cost air travel, LCCs are expected to witness breakthrough growth.
Mr. Eric Fong participated in a panel discussion “What type of airports best suit the needs of LCCs?” He introduced the current situation of LCC operating at Macau International Airport (MIA) as well as the advantages and future potentials. He said that MIA will fully use its own advantages to develop diversified market; on the other hand, providing quality of hardware and software services, continuously improved effectiveness and efficiency to create a better operating environment for airlines and passengers. During the forum, Mr. Fong met with several airlines to collect information and explore cooperation opportunities.
