2015 MIA Media Spring Dinner, Gratitude to Media’s Long-Term Support

2015 Macau International Airport (MIA) Media Spring Dinner was held on 30th January, 2015 at Grand Hyatt Ballroom, to express appreciation to media friends and celebrate the 20th anniversary of MIA. Almost 100 media friends joined this annual gathering, which is indeed a support to Macau International Airport.

Mr. Ma Iao Hang – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau International Airport Company Limited(CAM) thanked in his speech to the media for their long support to MIA and expressed that, “Although many unforeseen and changes in external environment happened in 2014, with the guidance and strong support of Macau SAR Government and management of CAM, MIA adjusted market strategies in time, achieved excellent results and brought positive energy to the society.”

2014 Results Report

In 2014, MIA received5.48 million passenger traffic, recorded 9% increase compared to 2013; 2.8 tonnes of cargo was transported, 8.7% increase year on year; aircraft movement over 52,000, an increase of 7.4%;while2,791 business jets movements, recorded 29.15% yearly increase.MIA operators achieved 4.38 billion (patacas, same below), 6.6% increasing compared to 2013, of which CAM’s revenue (calculated as at 10 Jan 2015) exceeded 1.04 billion, 13.6% increase year on year. As a small to medium sized airport, it is the third consecutive year to achieve net profits; Aeronautic income continued double-digit growth; at the same time, aircraft landing fee remained unchanged for the past 3 years and achieved only an 0.04% growth, as benefit to develop with aviation industry partners.

In 2014, CAM expanded development direction of MIA while completed the tasks planned. MIA achieved these breakthroughs: MIA recorded over 1 million passengers through low cost carriers and awarded the “Asia Pacific Small International Airport of the Year 2014”; After 7 consecutive years of negative growth in cargo traffic, it is the first time a positive growth of 8.7% in 2014, and MIA was awarded “The Best Emerging Airport- Asia” in The 28th Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA); CAM opened the market of Sub-concession Contracts of Duty Free Services, all bidders are the world's top ranked duty free shop operators to ensure quality service;Non-aeronautical revenues remain growth for the past 5 years since 2010. Starting in 2011, the fourth consecutive year where non-aeronautical revenues stay over 50% over the total revenue;CAM signed a Letter of Intent with YTO Express to enhance aviation cooperation as diversification in the industry development;Total of 550 million patacas invested into infrastructure development from 2012-2014, constantly improving airport safety and passenger terminal building environment;CAM opened the market of Sub-concession Contracts of FBO services to the Business/General Aviation and introduced MRO service into MIA.General Aviation achieved average annual growth of 20% from 2007-2014, a new general aviation hangar will be in operation in this first half year.

Reviewof past 20 years of MIA

The dinner was started with a video which reviewed MIA’s operation of the past 20 years and became the pillar of Macau civil aviation today where it began from “a grain of rice”. The video also aimed to express the gratitude to media friends.

Prospect Forecast in 2015

Look ahead to 2015, CAM will guide MIA to make success with compliance of the strategy of “Growth-Oriented Innovation and Market Expansion”.Since the price decrease of international oil prices, the global economy settled out in a low state, which favours the air logistic development. Therefore CAM forecasted new target of 29,343 tonnes of cargo in 2015, 2% increasing compared to 2014. Macau will continue to be affected by the surrounding economic impacts:new Visa measures of mainland China and limited long-haul aircraft development space.MIA will integrate resourcesof passenger transportation market, attract new airlines, add flight frequencies and take advantage of Air Freedom.CAM prospects new target for passenger volume with a 3% increase of 5.65 million, and 54,500 flight movements with4% increasing compared to last year. CAM will organize the “ACI Asia-Pacific Small and Emerging Airports Seminar” in the second half year which is expected to broaden MIA’s field of vision. The global forecast for general aviation market is optimistic, there is still development space for local market, CAM proposes new target of 2,958 business jets movements, 6% increasing compare to 2014.

Facilities Optimization

Along with the growing requirement of aviation development, neighboring airports actively prepare for extension, MIA concentrates on its own resources on passenger service experience, including completion of New Business Aviation Hangar, Passenger Terminal Building North Side Extension Project, Runway Repaving, South Apron Optimization, Baggage Handling SystemUpgrades on Arrivals Hall.

Airport Virtualization

IT projects will be continually promoted in 2015, including upgradeand rebuild of existing systemsand introduction of new technology systems to further strengthen the airport operation and management level. Of which, the assessment and design work of Airport Operation Data Base (AODB) System which was completed by civil aviation experts in 2014, and the tender will be carried out this year. The Airport Data Center of MIA constructed in the second half year of 2014 will be completed in the first half year of 2015. The data base corresponded to the international Class 2 standards, not only can accommodate historical operation data, but also be capableof operating equipment backup and emergency center inthe airport. Its design capacity could meet the demand of airport while provideco-location service for aviation industry. Since the launch of BeiDou Satellite Real-time Settlement Monitoring System in 2013, MIA have been makinguse of its technique of high precision satellite navigation and positioning and geographic information, in order to raise the level of airport intelligent management. Other IT projects planned to be promoted includes: Electronic Flight Strip, improvement project of CNS System, virtualization of Terminal Platform and upgrading of Departure Control System, etc.

 Sub-concession ContractsOpening

The tender for the second Ground Handling, Aircraft Maintenance and Cargo & Mail service providerwill be completed this year, looking forward to be able to operate in MIA by 2016. CAM aims to create a better and enjoyable travel experience to its customers in providing more convenient and professional services.

 Celebration of MIA 20th Anniversary

Stepping into the 20th anniversary of operation, CAM will hold a series of celebration activities in return to all different entities’ supports. With the position of Macau as World Center of Tourism and Leisure, being the Macanese Airport, MIA should grasp a foothold in Macau while overlooking to the world, explore diversify developments and internationalization.

During the dinner, game and lucky draw were prepared for all media friends, to wish all Happy Lunar New Year and good health in the Year of Goat!
