Macau International Airport Representatives Participated in the China Low Cost Carriers Summit 2014

Mr. Eric Fong, Director of Marketing Department and Mr. Daniel Lam, Officer of Marketing Department of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) represented to the China Low Cost Carriers Summit 2014 took place in Shenzhen from16th to 17th October 2014.  The 2 days Summit gathered 200 professionals from worldwide, bringing together relevant government agencies, airports, civil aviation regulatory authorities and solution providers from more than 10 countries; and delegates from over 31 local and foreign airlines participated in the forum. This Summit not only broadened the international perspective of Macau International Airport, but also strengthened connections with airlines, seek for opportunities and had a further understanding of the development and contribution of low-cost airline in Asia.

 

The low cost carriers will usher in a rapid growth over than 10% annually in the future with the development and support of national policy. In the analysis, domestic low cost market share is now less than 5%, compared with foreign market there still has a huge space for development. At the same time, some of the major domestic airlines are continuously developing the low cost carriers; therefore, low cost carriers will keep growing at 10%-12% annually in China and traffic is up to 300 million passengers per year. It is estimated until the year 2030, low cost aviation market will take 20%-30% of the overall market share in China.

 

During the forum, several airlines met with CAM representatives and expressed the intention to commence Macau service is being planned. Taiwan Tiger Airways said that flights from Taiwan to Macau has been planned and waiting for it’s operation license. Besides, Tiger Airways will further coordinate with the Civil Aviation Authority of Macao (AACM). Meanwhile, MIA actively develops the diversified market. Non-scheduled charter flight of Macau-Bali is expected to launch at this yearend with aviation and travel agency well prepared. Jeju Air of Korea indicated that flights to Macau is scheduled next summer and expected to apply from AACM by this yearend.

 

MIA fully uses its own advantages to develop diversified market and keeps on coordinating to cope with the limitation of land resources and tight aircraft parking space allowing more new companies to enter Macau market. Quality of hardware and software services, effectiveness and efficiency is continuously being improved by MIA as to provide a better operating environment for airlines and passengers.
