Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded a stable growth on passenger traffic volume and aircraft movement in May. Passenger volume surpassed 370,000, and aircraft movement over 4,000 representing a 13.7% and a 26% increase respectively comparing to same period last year. The passenger volume between May 1 to 5 recorded over 57,000 and the aircraft movements recorded over 600, increase of 18 % and 28 % respectively over the same period last year. Passengers from Southeast Asia and Mainland China routes recorded increase of 30% and 22% respectively for the month of May as compared with last year.
MIA also recorded over 27,000 transfer passengers connecting with another flight or using the Express Link service to onward destination in May, an increase of 27% as comparing to the same month last year, revealing the “one stop, travel more destinations” marketing strategy has been successful and attracting more passengers to come through by air to Macau and transferring to other destinations. As always, MIA incorporates with the objectives of the tourism policy of the SAR Government to provide quality service and functional facilities to the passengers, so as to build Macau into a world tourism and leisure centre. Meanwhile, on 3rdJune, the new Express Link service had been launched at Zhuhai Gongbei border gate. Passenger may complete their check-in process there and take designated transportation to the MIA, providing more efficient service for the Pearl River Delta clients. Other than the Gongbei Border Gate, the Express Link check-in service is also available at Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Hengqin borders. In order to expand the sea-land-air transportation services as to provide more convenience to the passengers, MIA will further promote with the related entities and communicate with the airlines.
In addition to stabilize the existing routes, MIA also continues in developing new routes to diversify the destination market. Recently, some carriers from Malaysia and Cambodia expressed interest to launch their flights to Macau. MIA is actively communicating with these airlines, aiming to cooperate with them and to launch new air services to Macau within this year.
