The first flight of Mandarin Airlines from Taichung arrived at Macau International Airport on 21st April, 2012, starting its daily services between Macau and Taichung. An inaugural flight ceremony was held at the airport and was attended by honorable guests including: Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macau S.A.R. Mr. Cheong U; Deputy Director of Liaison Office of Central People?s Government of China in Macau SAR. Ms. Gao Yan; Nantou Magistrate, Mr. Lee Chao-Ching; President of Civil Aviation Authority of Macau SAR, Mr. Simon Chan; The Chairman of Taiwan Mandarin Airlines, Mr. Chang, Chia-Juch; Head of Taiwan Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, Mr. Li Weiyi; Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Mr. Lo, Muh- Kuen; Acting Director of Macau Government Tourist Office, Mr. Manuel Pires; Senior Assistant to the Chairman & Director of Logistics and General Aviation Development Department of CAM - Macau International Airport Co., Ltd, Mr. Cui Guang; Deputy Mayor of Taichung City Government, Mr. Tsai,Ping-Kun; Deputy magistrate of Changhua County Government, Mr. Lin, Tien-Fu; Director of Taiwan Visitors Association Ltd, Mr.Wang Chun-Bao; Director of Marketing Department of CAM - Macau International Airport Co. Mandarin Airlines is a regional carrier operating short-haul international and domestic routes. It owns a total of eight E190 aircrafts which are manufactured by EMBRAER with 104 seats and the aircraft’s average age is 3.89 years. From the start of its airline operation, Mandarin Airlines emphasized on flight safety and comfortable flight service. It received the citation of meritorious service from the Australian Civil Aviation Board in 1992. In April 1996, the airline was granted the first ISO-9002 certification for service in Taiwan.
Director of Marketing Department of CAM, Mr. Eric Fong said that the direct flight operation is the aspiration for both Macau and Taichung cities. After years of effort, the flight service between the two places was finally realized. It is believed that with the launch of the flight service, it would attract more tourists to both cities, and stimulate economic growth, as well as to further promote “One Travel with More Destinations from Macau”.
Taichung locates in the West-Central part of Taiwan. The city offers diversity attractions such as sightseeing of the seashore, hiking along old house ranch and exploring the beautiful farm and national parks, and famous night markets that provide night-time excitement with delicious food and drink. Taichung has a pleasant climate and a population of just over 2.6 million people, making it the third largest city on the island after New Taipei and Kaohsiung.
