In the mid-May of 2011, Dr. Deng Jun - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) led Ms. Katy Lo - Chief of Executive Committee Office (ECO), Ms. Fiona Pun - Assistant to the Chairman and Ms. Pearl Ho - Secretary of ECO to pay a courtesy visit to the Shenzhen International Airport. The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Wang Yang - President of Shenzhen Airport Management Company Limited. Both sides then had exchanges on the construction and development of the airports in recent years.
Shenzhen International Airport is having expansion projects underway, including the second runway and T3 terminal building. As the key projects of the Shenzhen Municipal Government to build an international city, the total investment involves 21.4 billion dollars, of which the airport invested 14.3 billion dollars. The second runway (3,800 m long and 60 m wide) was completed with initial inspection and expected to be officially in operation in the coming June. The flight grade of the runway is 4F, meaning it could accommodate the takeoffs and landings of the world’s largest passenger aircraft. The T3 terminal building in an area of 450,000 square meters is under construction, expected to be operational last next year.
In the meeting, Mr. Wang was pleased to share that the Shenzhen Baoan International Airport received the global "Cargo Airport of the Year" award by the world air cargo authoritative magazine "Air Cargo News" in April. It is the first airport in the mainland to receive this honour. Dr. Deng, on behalf of the Macau International Airport, expressed congratulations to the Shenzhen International Airport. He is expecting the five major airports in the Pearl River Delta to continue playing their respective functions and working together for the development of the civil aviation industry.
