THE thought of a loooooong wait on an airport stopover usually fills travellers with horror, but at these amazing airports you’ll almost be hoping for a flight delay.

Kids love the four-storey slide at Changi Airport, Singapore.



Singapore Changi Airport has an on-site movie theatre, swimming pool with swim-up bar, and The Slide@T3, a 4-storey ride that send passengers down to the basement at high speed. For every $10 you spend at the airport, you’ll get one ticket to ride the slide.

Need to get back to nature?

Changi Airport features the world’s first Butterfly Garden in an airport.


Singapore’s Changi Airport has the world’s first Butterfly Garden in an airport, complete with flowering plants, lush greenery and a 6m grotto-waterfall. More than 1000 species of butterflies are featured.

At Zurich Airport you can rent inline skates or bicycles from the service centre and use them to tour the nature park surrounding the airport.

Exercise bikes are on offer at Philadelphia Airport.


Philadelphia International Airport features exercise bikes throughout the terminals.

The bikes are part of its Just Plane Fun customer appreciation program. “It’s easy to stiffen up on short or long flights, but even light cardio exercise that doesn’t work up a sweat can help travellers stay loose,” Rich Hebert, CEO of Smooth Fitness, which donated equipment to the airport, told StuckAtTheAirport.

Meanwhile, San Francisco Aiport has the world’s first airport yoga room. The space has mirrored walls and offers complimentary mats to travellers looking to practice their downward dog between flights.

There’s a nine-hole golf course at Hong Kong International Airport.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is currently building a 18-hole course, designed by former Ryder Cup captain and US Masters winner Ian Woosnam.

And Don Mueang International Airport, in Bangkok, Thailand, has an 18-hole golf course in the middle of the two runways.

In winter you can go ice skating at Munich Airport.

During winter, Munich Airport transforms a covered outdoor atrium between terminals 1 and 2 into a winter wonderland, with a free ice-skating rink and 50 food and gift stands.

Amsterdam’s Airport Schiphol features a museum in Terminal U. The Rijksmuseum displays paintings by famous Dutch artists in rotating temporary exhibitions. Best of all, entry is free.

At Seoul Incheon Airport you can visit the Korean Cultural Street, complete with jeongja (pavilion), giwa (tiled roofs) and a traditional garden. There are also opportunities to sample the local delicacies, enjoy a traditional musical performances and learn how to make local handicrafts.

Tour a brewery at Munich Airport.

Munich Airport features the world’s only airport brewery, Airbrau. You can take a tour of a brewery, or just relax in the open-air beer garden, get served by waitresses in traditional costumes and dine on local Bavarian fare.
