CAM EC Members Site Visit at South Extension of Airport Passenger Terminal for Progress Update

The south extension project of Macau International Airport (MIA) Passenger Terminal Building officially commenced with the groundbreaking ceremony held on 11th March 2020. According to the report by the construction contractor Nam Fong Construction & Real Estate Co., Ltd., more than 30% of the work has been completed. Chairman of the Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) Dr. Deng Jun and Executive Director Mr. Leung Henry Yee Hang, accompanied by Director of Infrastructure Development Department Mr. Sandro Kou, went to the south extension project construction site on 16th December 2020, to understand the actual construction situation and progress.

Chairman of Nam Fong Construction & Real Estate Co., Ltd. Mr. Deng Guoqiang, General Manager Mr. Feng Wenshan and other representatives introduced that all areas have been completed with cover layering on the day except the V1 area will be completed before the Chinese New Year. The sewer line and ventilation line are under installation. The design followed not only local codes and regulations, but also the guidelines from International Air Transport Association (IATA) to assess the performance of facilities and services. PTB South Extension will be integrated seamlessly with the existing PTB to provide consistency and integrity in both architectural appearance and interior finishing. All arrangement are being negotiated with relevant related departments for smooth processing. During the inspection, CAM Executive Committee members proposed that all pipelines need to keep the integrity and regularity for ease management of the building and operation in the future. It is necessary to strengthen in security management to control the entry and exit of personnel to prevent violations in some areas when connecting the loading bridge to the airside of the building. The design on vehicle flow and security measures of the south extension need to be discussed with related departments to meet the needs and usage of various parties. The working schedule of construction workers during Chinese New Year should be coordinated and prepared in advance so that the overall management can be done according to the plan.

The PTB South Extension is anticipated to be completed by mid 2021. After completion, the total floor area of MIA PTB will be increased by 18,000. More space at departure hall will be provided to passengers, with additional 3 new passenger boarding bridges, making a total of 8 passenger boarding bridges commissioning after completion of the PTB South Extension. The overall PTB designed passenger handling capacity will be increased from 7.8 million passengers per year to 10 million passengers per year.
