In order to enhance the efficiency of the passenger security check and improve the airport experience for travellers, Macau International Airport (MIA) is scheduling the upgrading works of the Departure Level Passenger Security Check Lanes and the Departure Immigration Hall. In order to understand the latest Smart Security Screening System, Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) organized a delegation including representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority of Macao SAR (AACM) and the SEMAC Security Company (SEMAC), visited to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on 27th March 2025. This visit aimed to understand the operation of the security system in HKIA, as well as to learn about the related engineering and operational experience.

The delegation first visited the Smart Security Screening Training Centre of Aviation Security Company Limited (AVSECO) to understand the training and operation of the system. Afterwards, the delegation went to the Passenger Security Check Area at the Departure Level of HKIA for site visit. With the introduction by the representatives from the Airport Authority of Hong Kong and AVSECO, the delegation was able to understand the security procedures and the security screening process of the HKIA, which would provide valuable experience for the upgrading works of the Departure Level Passenger Security Check Lanes and future implementation of new equipments at MIA.

After the upgrading works has been completed of MIA, the area will be equipped with eight smart security screening channels with functionalities such as automatic sorting of carry-on luggage, automatic tray retrieval, and assisted unpacking workstations. Additionally, millimeter-wave body imaging security scanners will be employed, increasing the passenger security processing capacity by 80%.
