Macau International Airport (MIA) hosted the 2017 Media Spring Dinner at Grand Hyatt Macau on 18th Jan 2017. As the typical practice of “One Country and Two Systems”, MIA always keeps step with the development strategy of government, becoming into an outstanding example of multi-function sample of small and medium-sized international airport. The excellent performance relies much on the support of the MSAR Government, company management authority, all walks of life and all media friends.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) Mr. Ma Iao Hang noted in his welcome speech, MIA made a new high record since its 21 years operation, recorded over 6.6 million passenger traffic volume, a 14% increase over 2015, 10 times of the number of local residents, which is unique in China. Cargo transportation is over 32,000 tonnes, a 9.4% increase over 2015; aircraft movements surpassed 56,000, a 2% increase over 2015. The operating units of MIA is estimated to achieve revenues of over MOP 4.5 billion, a 2% increase over 2015. In view of the rapid development of air travel, CAM invested 2.48 hundred million into infrastructure, to enhance reception capacity on limited land resources.
Looking forward to 2017, the completion of several large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the business jet hangar will be having fixed-base operator (FBO) providing service and the terminal building will be adding up to accommodate 7.5 million passengers as a whole after the north extension project. With our creation to help the development of the local aviation industry and consideration of the surrounding environment and industrial changes, the passenger traffic in 2017 is expected to be 6.85 million, 34,000 tonnes of cargo transport and 60,500 flight movements.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Macau (AACM) recently launched the “Macau International Airport Master Plan” sets up the expansion plan from 2017 to 2040 and gained great support from the community. CAM will fully cooperate with the SAR Government to formulate a task force for the development of the future business plan, specific implementation plans and financing arrangements, so that this “Macao people’s Airport” will be taking its advantage as a free port to a more internationalized and diversified direction with the positioning of “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure”.
