After the courtesy visit paid to the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the Chairman of Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) led a delegation to the Zhuhai Airport, a member of the PRD A5 Airports, on 23rd Jan, 2014, for investigation into the differences in developments to achieve win-win situation in efficient cooperation.
The General Manager of Zhuhai Aviation Industrial Development Group Co. Ltd. Mr. Li Guoming first welcomed Macau International Airport (MIA)'s delegation and reviewed on Zhuhai Airport's achievements in 2013: completed about 2.9 million of passenger traffic (39% increase year on year); 22,160 tonnes of cargo (36.2%) and nearly 26,000 flight movements (38.8% increase). In 2014, the Zhuhai Airport sets a target in passenger traffic to be 3.6 million and focus on aviation industry construction by investment of 1 billion dollars in infrastructure development. During the Chinese New Year period, with the impact from the opening of the Zhuhai Changlong Ocean Kingdom, Zhuhai Airport predicted to have a breakthrough in its transportation history. The General Manager of Hong Kong-Zhuhai Airport Management Company Limited Mr. Wong Yiu Fai noted that Zhuhai Airport mainly developed routes to Eastern China (13 destinations now in total) in the year of 2013, with the cooperation of base airlines. It was hoped that Zhuhai Airport could continue investigating into cooperation and learning from MIA in its efficient and effective business development.
Dr. Deng congratulated to the rapid enhancement in Zhuhai Airport's traffic of 2013. Meanwhile, MIA's passenger traffic returned to breakthrough 5 million last year after the implementation of the cross-strait three links. During the year of 2013, MIA focused on development of general aviation, of which the movement of business jets increased 30% over the year of 2012 and the new business jet hangar of 8,000 m2 is expected to be completed in 2014. To cope with the rapid development and the need, MIA will expand 4,000 m2 of passenger terminal building with optimization of the environment and the aircraft apron. For the route development, MIA will continue exploring to the international market with a plan to increase 6 international destinations to 18 in total. With the support from the SAR Government and shareholders, CAM will open up the service markets step by step after the expiries. The Senior Assistant to the Chairman of EC and Director of Logistics & General Aviation Development Department Mr. Cui Guang pointed out that the new business jet service contract has been opened tender with introduction of MRO management into the contract which could build up a complete industrial chain, keep up with the usual safe and efficient operation. Thus, the business jet movement is expected to increase by about 5% in 2014.
Both Macau International Airport and Zhuhai Airport recognized the need of PRD airports to always cross exchange information and updates in order to close the mutual cooperation space. The 6th annual Five Airports in Greater Pearl River Delta Meeting will be hosted in rotation by the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport this year.
