The typhoon “Mangkhut” is gradually approaching Macao, Macau International Airport (MIA) has been preparing in advance. Mr. Ma Iao Hang, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. Deng Jun, Chairman of the Executive Committee, had an inspection onsite in the morning of 14th September 2018 with the accompany of department head of the relevant works. They were there to understand the emergency measures prepared by the airport-related units and the plan to resume operation after the typhoon, hoping to minimize the impact and recover in the shortest possible time with the greatest possibility.
The team first listened to the explanation of the emergency plan in the terminal building, which includes coordinated with the restaurants continue operation during the typhoon, prepared large water storage containers, prepared enough food supply to passengers stranded at the airport, and fixed the doors, windows and equipment, etc. Menzies Macau is also prepared for wind-resistant preparations and plans to be carried out in the cargo warehouse. Afterwards, the team went to the CPSP Airport Station, the Fire Services Bureau Airport Station, the Red Cross and other related units to understand their status, to cooperate with each other to maintain safety and order. Other preparatory work includes: inspection in and around the airport, requiring all operating units and engineering units to place well the equipment and do windproof work; checking the fences around the airport, glasses, generators and drains, and prepare sandbags and windproof adhesive tape, etc. In order to maintain normal operation after the typhoon, contacted contractors to prepare repair materials that may be urgently needed after the typhoon, prepared some spare parts that are easily damaged so as to repair as soon as possible after the typhoon; requesting all project contractors get prepared for wind protection and required good supervision.
